Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of heroes who will separate from the main group to begin their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the group understands precisely where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose death started the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.
The antagonist then cleared his debts and fled to a secure base in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each adventurer has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants revenge.
- Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty location.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could enable the group access places they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, Teor vowed a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The rogue and The character are known criminals.
- The strong figure and The cleric defied the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The target is marked for death by House Halovar.
This leaves them few options but to head to Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Questers and Strategists groups.
Audiences can expect learning which players will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
